The Philadelphia General Membership Branch of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) stands in solidarity with our eight fellow workers in the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) Xixón who were arrested and sentenced to a total of over 25 years in prison: three and a half years for seven of them and eight months for another, for holding a peaceful informational picket regarding their employer’s abuse and harassment.
The Superior Court of Justice of Asturia has ratified the prison sentences of six of the eight unionists. As the Philadelphia IWW’s own Fellow Worker Ben Fletcher remarked in 1918 upon the unjust imprisonment of over 100 IWW members for opposing World War I, “The judge has been using very ungrammatical language – his sentences are much too long.” The Philadelphia IWW still stands with all class-war prisoners to this day and demands the immediate release of those still incarcerated.
In solidarity with our fellow workers,
Marissa Wilk
